Afternoon.

Allow me to offer you some advice.

Working with people can be exhausting. I don't care if you're an introvert or an extrovert, people are full of shit. Your partner, friends, co-workers, children, boss; all of them. There's always a damn problem and someone always have something to complain about. So, this is how I navigate through social mine fields.

I'm not lazy. Or stupid. But I couldn't figure out why everyone kept bugging me and saying things like "You never say anything nice to me." or "You never compliment my work." If there's a problem, you'll know about it. Yeah, see, apparently; relationships don't work this way. A relationship is like a job. You went to work once. Does this mean you get your salary every month? No. Obviously not. You have to go to your job every day and do your job well and know what the hell to do, or else you won't get paid every month. It's the same with relationships.

When you got married to your partner, you both exchanged vows. That was day one of your new job. You've told them you love them that day, right? And you bloody hell meant it. But, now you gotta say that stuff a lot. If you gotta draw up reports monthly, you gotta draw up reports monthly. Did you just magically know how to do this? No. You practiced, studied and asked questions.

Now, do this with relationships. Read up on social cues. You can utilize this information. Most people have a system, a way to let you know how they feel. Read them. Start to listen to tone of voice, and look at body language. If they frequently tell you that you don't notice them, then start taking notes of their appearance. And then give compliments, habitually, on their appearance.

People are creatures of habit. So, if they frequently surprise you, they will habitually be impulsive. If they frequently tell you that you never buy them flowers, they habitually want gifts. If they frequently want space, they will habitually want space. (Same with cuddles, by the way)If they frequently give money to the poor, they will habitually give money to the poor.

So, make a deal with them. They are only allowed to buy food to the homeless, not give cash. Compromise will be a great tool. Just rememeber, compromise means neither of you get everything you want. But, you both leave happy. Accept this person, and meet them halfway.

See your relationship like a business. Take care of them as you would your employees. Your loved ones bring such value into your life. Keep them in good shape and in high spirits. Start studying them, and take them seriously. Look at the person.

And remember,

People are different. What is important to you, isn't necessarily important for them. You are a person. With your own thoughts, ideas and likes. And often times, we forget everyone is different. Right and wrong can depend a lot on perspective. Sometimes, there just isn't something like that. So, using your head can help you speak from the heart. Cheesy, but it works.
