Let's talk.


Whenever we talk about a new goal, we need a plan. A structure. We need to see what will work best. For you. Not "statistically". Personalize the goal. When we look at fitness, the "best" way will probably be to join a gym. Not many people will ask you which sport you enjoy or which dance you've always liked.


If you don't like to exercise, then don't do the exercises you can't stand. There will be something that makes you feel like "this is not so bad". Don't like push ups? Try pull ups. Don't like either? Swim. Don't like water? Dance. Don't like dancing? Cycle. Don't want to? Play fetch with your dog and alternate your throwing arm. Don't have a dog? Play outside with your child. There is something you can do and won't hate. I promise.


The most important thing you can do for yourself, is to think your fitness is everyone's fitness. Why do you want to start getting into shape? For health? I promise, you don't need to run 45km to be considered healthy. All I need you to do, is keep at it. Keep doing it. That's the only way you're going to accomplish anything; is to keep at it.


When you're healthy, you will build a better future. You need to maintain your fitness levels to excell in other areas of your life. All areas will benefit from good fitness. If you are healthy, and you can move around, you'll burn off excess energy and sleep better. This can increase you're productivity at your job. That's one benefit. While you're on this journey, remind yourself that it's not just one point in life. This isn't just a one time thing that'll waste your time if you invest in it. It can better your life in the long term and the principles and discipline you learn with a good exercise routine will factor into the rest of your life too.


Start something you have a genuine interest in. Mountain climbing, hiking, golf... All of these can be a great starting point. Join a community on a walk around the neighborhood. Start a cleaning project on the beach. Have a playdate with small energetic children and run around with them. Try to incorporate more physical activities until you can settle on an exercise that you feel comfortable with. Just start somewhere.


And remember, you can start slow. Once a week is better than never. Then, after a while, you can increase it to twice a week. And then to however much you'd like. You actually don't need much to stay in shape. The body is relatively easy to satisfy its basic fitness needs. A good 2km walk around the neighborhood once a week is often a good enough workout.


All in all, have fun. And Remember; stay weird, stay curious and stay humble.
